Cherry Hills Country Club will host the 112th Men’s U.S. Amateur golf tournament from August 13 – 16, 2012. Play will be held at Cherry Hills and Common Grounds Golf Club in Aurora. The United Stated Golf Association conducts the Amateur every year along with the Women’s Amateur and the Men’s U.S. Open and Women’s U.S. Open, among others.
The U.S. Amateur will attract some of the best young players (and not so young) from across the country. The USGA selected Cherry Hills because of its long standing tradition of hosting top tournaments since its inception. In 2014, Cherry Hills will host the BMW Championship which is part of the exciting FedEX Cup, on the Men’s PGA Tour.
Cherry Hills asked Karsh Hagan to promote the U.S. Amateur and design the logo, tickets, pairing sheets, credentials and advertising including print radio and television. The theme developed by KH for the tournament is “Where It All Begins”.
KH Art Director, Nick Marranzino, explained the theme this way; “many young aspiring golfers use the Amateur as a springboard to join the Nationwide and tours.” ”Tiger, Mickelson and, essentially all of the greats won the Amateur.”
“This is where it all begins.”
The team included copywriter Karen Morris, Account Executive Camille Ziccardi and Creative Director Sean Topping. The :30 television spot focuses on the Championship winners that have graced the Cherry Hills links over the past hundred years while hosting a number of high level events. This includes Palmer, Nicklaus, Mickelson and Woods among others.
